Our Story Journey Christian Fellowship began in 2001 with the vision of reaching students and professionals living near the UCLA campus. With over 36,000 highly motivated and ambitious students and professionals, UCLA has produced astronauts, Nobel-prized scientists, senators and many influential leaders. Reaching this group of global leaders would mean reaching powerful and critical leaders who can use their influence for Christ.
Journey first began by using UCLA lecture halls and classrooms for small group meetings and a few preview worship gatherings. In the summer of 2001, we selected a comedy theater in Westwood as our headquarters and began meeting regularly for small groups and Bible studies, eventually moving out into Westwoodıs coffee shops and bookstores as meeting sites in order to reduce rental costs. All the while, Journey was slowly attracting core group members.
Since then, Journey has evolved. In order to form a core membership, Journey sought after young couples/families. In January of 2002, Journey partnered with All Nations Church (ANC) located in Los Angeles. All Nations Church, a primarily Korean speaking congregation, has grown its membership to near 1500 in its seven year history. Due to their language limitations, ANC has released their English Ministry to Journey, sharing our vision of establishing multiple, multi-ethnic congregations. In the middle of March 2002,
Journey launched its second annual worship event, PASSION 2002, which drew over 1000 young people. David Crowder and the UBC Band, one of the most popular worship bands in the country, led worship for the second time in Journeyıs history (PASSION 2001, 2002). During PASSION 2002, Journey announced a new location for Sundayıs regular gathering at a popular club situated in the heart of downtown, known as SOHO in the LA-Entertainment Center.
In the middle of October 2002, Journey launched additional service at 9:30 am utilizing All Nations Church's new home in Sunland. This additional service was launched to meet the needs of a growing population located in the San Fernando Valley.
Our desire is to build a church for an emerging generation. Statistics show that today's churches are losing 80% of their young people. This exile has impacted tremendous decline in church attendance. Journey is poised to reverse the trend. With its multi-ethnic core team members, we want to reach the emerging generation to be transformed to live purposefully and passionately as followers of Jesus Christ. We are building a small yet very genuine community to help people to experience God in a fresh way and to be able to hear His voice for their lives. Journey has an audacious goal of planting 10 churches within next 8 years with strong partnership with CRC Home Missions and local ethnic churches in Los Angeles area.
